The Who to hold charity concert

The Who will play a concert to support a cancer charity. The popular British rock band The Who has announced it will play alongside other musical talents, such as Jeff Beck, Debbie Harry and Richard Ashcroft, in a concert that will be held to support charity, reports the Times and Transcript.

The concert will generate funds for KILLING Cancer, an organization that researches new and unorthodox cancer treatment measures, such as Photodynamic Therapy. PDT makes cancer cells more vulnerable, which could help doctors treat cancer conditions near the surface of the skin or internal organ linings.

As the source notes, The Who's manager, Bill Crubishley, lost several friends to cancer so the concert holds special significance to him. "Only later we discovered that PDT could perhaps have saved their lives – and certainly given them some dignity in their final weeks," he commented.

Several major bands hold concerts to benefit charities. For example, Dave Matthews recently announced a concert which will support whichever nonprofit organizations his fans chose.
